Whimsical Winter Wedding

Bride and Groom.jpg

Today marks the two year wedding anniversary of Sally & Mikey who got married on a beautiful crisp winter’s day at Elmore Court - a grade II* listed mansion, located in the heart of Gloucestershire. Oozing with history and charm, this 750 year old country house provided the perfect setting for their special day.

The historic house has recently undergone an entire refurbishment along with the addition of a sound proofed event space called ‘the Gillyflower’, sustainably built from earth and timber gathered from the estate. The house was originally established as a home in the 13th Century and has views over the Cotswolds and River Severn. The same family opened it up for fun and games in 2013, and it is now run as a unique wedding and events venue.

The couple opted for a traditional colour palette of reds, greens and ivory for the wedding flowers, which tied in perfectly with the festive twinkling lights and beautiful Christmas trees tastefully decorated throughout the house.

A variety of seasonal flowers were carefully selected and consisted of red Amaryllis, Burgundy Roses, Anemones, Hellebores, Quicksand Roses, Thistle, Wax Flower, Viburnum Berries and Eucalyptus. These flowers made up the bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, wrist corsages, buttonholes and the long and low for the registrar table. The pops of red from the Roses and Amaryllis perfectly complimented the stunning navy blue Vera Wang bridesmaid dresses.

After the all important wedding vows were exchanged, it was across to the Gillyflower for dinner and dancing where 85 feet of beautifully scented foliage garlands adorned the tables, interspersed with festive pine cones, tall bronze candelabras, antique candlesticks and vintage tea light holders. The warm glow from the candlelight magically lit up the room, completely transforming what was already a beautiful space.

Festive ceramic baubles were used as the table place settings with each of the guests’ names beautifully hand painted onto the baubles. These also doubled up as wedding favours, which I thought was rather thrifty!

I definitely think there’s something quite special and magical about a winter wedding and this wedding was no exception. A perfect day filled with, love, laughter and happiness.

Happy Anniversary Sally and Mikey!
